Abstract

Purpose: The study aimed to verify the effects of nurses¡¯ experience of violence, response to violence, and resilience on nursing performance in the emergency department.

Methods: The participants were 190 nurses. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and multiple stepwise regression analysis with the SPSS program.

Results: The nursing performance of nurses differed significantly by age(p<.001), marital status(p<.001), education level(p=.018), general clinical career(p<.001), clinical career in the emergency department, job position(p<.001), job satisfaction in the emergency department(p<.001), and type of emergency department(p=.032). A statistically significant negative correlation was observed between nursing performance and response to violence(r=-.20), whereas a positive correlation was observed between nursing performance and resilience(r=.62). A total of 49% of the nursing performance was explained by response to violence, resilience, and clinical career in the emergency department.

Conclusion: Based on the above results, I have adjusted for tone in order to improve the nursing performance of emergency department nurses exposed to violence, it is necessary to both strengthen resilience and respond appropriately to violence, as well as to provide better management of skilled nurses.
